 Andy Farmer
As a junior Andy trained at one of the most prestigious tennis academy in the USA, Harry Hopman's International Tennis Academy in Florida. While at the academy, he practiced and trained alongside some of the greatest tennis players ever to play the game. What an experience!
While at the academy he received extensive training by these world-renowned coaches: Tommy Thompson, Bob Butterfield, Alvaro Betancur, Colon Nunez, and the great Harry Hopman. He played the professional tennis circuit for nearly two-and-a-half years. Although his professional tennis career was short-lived due to a bad Achilles injury, he began teaching as a way to stay involved in the sport that he loved and the rest is history!
Since his playing days, he has run his own academy, was a managing partner of the Bobby Riggs Tennis Club, and now his academy is located at Bobby Riggs Tennis Center and El Camino Country Club. Andy has earned an impressive following since he began coaching more than 20 years ago. Training international students in the U.S. and Japan, Andy has earned a reputation for taking beginner-level kids and advancing their ability through national and collegiate levels.
He is a proponent of good footwork, sound mechanics, and mental toughness. One of his favorite quotes is, "What will be is up to me." He believes that the individual should take an introspective look at themselves, figure out what it is that they want to achieve, set the goals, and take steps towards them.
He was traveling with a player (Julianna Gates) intermittently on the WTA/ ITF tour for two years. Andy began teaching her as a beginner and coached her all the way through to professional tennis. Along the way she was offered numerous collegiate scholarships and as a junior was top 15 in Southern California from the 14s though the 18s.
Currently he is working with a lot of inspiring tennis juniors. One of his goals is to help cultivate the talent that some of the driven kids have and take them to the next level, whatever that may be. What Andy brings to the court is the instilled sense of discipline, energy, and love of tennis. It clearly emanates from him when he is in his element.
