Jason Alfrey

Jason Alfrey has taught tennis in the North County area for over 16 years. Jason grew up with the conventional teaching methods that his parents learned when they were kids. He has been fortunate to see the game evolve to what it is now. However, he believes the old school of thought and the modern game can intertwine. The traditional philosophy is hard work, respect for the players and the game that sets the foundation. When this is accomplished it enables a player to compete at any level and to achieve any goal they may have. Jason wants to emphasize respect. "When there is respect between the coach and player much more can be accomplished. With respect the lines of communication will remain open. It's imperative that a coach is open to suggestions from a student and vice-a-versa. This will ultimately lead to self confidence and pride in their hard work." Jason emphasizes the players' responsibility in their progression. "In addition to being simply a teacher and a coach, I am also there to motivate them to reach their goals. When reaching those bench marks that we have set for them, I want them to realize that they have been a major factor in accomplishing their goals."

"Fun is the driving force in learning the game of tennis. The more you learn during lessons or workouts and then use those skills during match play that is when the fun begins." He believes that whether you win or lose there is the learning process. "There will always be something positive and negative to take away with you from a tennis match. It's what is agreed upon and implemented afterwards that the next step takes place."

Jason feels that what you learn from the game of tennis can also be carried over into the rest of your life. "With respect, discipline, self-confidence, and hard work, tennis only gives you the tools to succeed not only on the court, but off the court as well."
